MAX is best known in concrete construction for its TwinTier battery-powered rebar tying systems. These tools automatically feed, wrap, pull back, and twist wire around intersecting reinforcing bars, helping crews complete repetitive ties more consistently than hand tying with pliers and bulk wire. MAX rebar tying tools are used for foundations, slabs, retaining walls, precast work, road and bridge construction, tilt-up panels, water-retaining structures, and other reinforced concrete projects. Its slimmer arm helps it reach into tighter reinforcing layouts, making it suitable for foundations, walls, precast work, pools, conduit installations, and other jobs using smaller to mid-sized bar combinations.
The RB613T covers larger combinations from #5 x #5 through #9 x #10, depending on the rebar manufacturer. This tier suits heavier foundations, retaining walls, infrastructure, tilt-up construction, and other projects where the RB443T does not provide enough jaw capacity.
MAX lists an approximately half-second tying speed, reduced trigger effort, assisted wire loading, and tying performance approximately 15% faster than the RB611T it replaces.
The RB823T provides the largest capacity in the current TwinTier range. It is designed for combinations from #7 x #7 through #14 x #14, with selected combinations up to #18 x #8. This model is intended for heavy reinforcing work where standard handheld tying tools cannot fit around the bars being joined.
The RB401T-E allows operators to tie reinforcing steel from a standing position rather than repeatedly bending down over a slab. It covers combinations from #3 x #3 through #6 x #6 and uses a contact-actuated tying mechanism that completes the tie when the tool is pressed onto the intersection.
This model is particularly useful for large slabs, bridge decks, foundations, and other flat reinforcing installations where crews may complete hundreds or thousands of low-level ties. Adjustable handle positions and interchangeable nose attachments help adapt the tool to the operator and rebar clearance.
MAX publishes tying capacities using U.S. rebar numbers such as #3, #5, #7, and #9. Canadian reinforcing steel is commonly identified using designations such as 10M, 15M, 20M, and 25M, and the two systems do not provide a perfect number-for-number match. Confirm the actual bar diameters and every combination the crew expects to tie before selecting a tool. MAX also notes that maximum compatibility can vary by rebar manufacturer.
For projects involving bundled bars, coated rebar, unusual intersections, or multiple layers, check the manufacturer’s compatibility chart rather than choosing from the largest single-bar size alone.
MAX TwinTier tools require genuine 19-gauge TW1061T-series wire reels. Conventional bulk tie wire and wire made for older MAX Re-Bar-Tier tools are not compatible. MAX warns that non-TW1061T wire can interfere with tool operation and prevent the intended tying performance.
